Inside CAFCA

Café for Contemporary Art is a place worth visiting in North Vancouver. We serve award winning 49th Parallel drinks, home made soups and sandwiches, and die-worthy deserts. We always have international and local artists showing in the gallery.
Whist away your day in our Wireless-drenched atmosphere, or just read a book outside in the sun (or rain).

Puppets

delicious

CAFCA140 is known for its unusual exhibitions, but this time is almost unheard of: a show of puppets, instruments of puppetry and actual puppet shows. The exhibition is the brain-child and product of hard-work by organizer, Dusty Hagerud. Dusty has gathered some of Vancouver’s excellent puppeteers and their favourite puppets for the show. It’s been a long time coming, and its really worth a look at these remarkable exhibition.

Dusty points out that puppets is an overlooked if not derided art form, not only today but also throughout history. Christian institutions in medieval England labelled puppetry the work of the devil. Puppetry fell from royalty into the realm of travelling entertainers and gypsies. Ironically, the church utilized puppetry and its evocative and narrative characteristics to influence the general public. Details »

The Delusions of Dylan Humphreys

CAFCA 140 is showing recent works of Dylan Humphreys. Dylan’s work is a potent blend of political and social commentary, offered in a comic book aesthetic.

The work appears undisciplined, random and hacked together on first glance; however, closer examination and contemplation reveals that Dylan prowess with a pen, paintbrush, spray-can and any other marking tool is deliberate, careful and anything but undisciplined. Dylan’s work shows off his technical rigor. It is not suprising that Dylan honed his skills in the Capilano University’s program dedicated to Graphic Arts and Illustration.
